Two-Face Rumors

Numerous movie and entertainment sites have Christopher Nolan pegged to play the role of District Attorney, Harvey Dent in the upcoming Batman: The Dark Knight a sequel to the fantastic Batman Begins. Fans of the Batman mythos know that Harvey Dent is destined to become the villain known as Two-Face. Actually looking at the guy he's not a bad choice. I can't think of any films I've seen the guy in, but so far the casting for the roles in the Batman movies has been exceptional. So I ain't gonna quibble.

He's surely a better choice for Two-Face then Tommy Lee Jones. Good Lord... the whole point of Two-Face is that half of him is a good looking guy and the other half is a twisted, acid burned reflection. Mr. Jones, to be perfectly blunt, just wasn't equipped to play the role. Oh sure the acid burned side of his face was great, but the other half of his face just wasn't working.

Personally, I'm sorry that Tommy Lee Jones was selected for the role for another reason. I believe that the Two-Face role from the previous Batman film franchise belonged to my man, Billy Dee Williams. The brother played a cool DA in the first movies, why'd they dump him in favor of craggy faced Tommy Lee Jones? Never got that. Billy Dee got the shaft. At least he doesn't have that piece of crap movie on his resume... maybe Billy won in the end after all. Hmmm

Gary Coleman Is Sad

Literally.

This picture was taken at the New York ComicCon by Ryan Brenizer and is featured on Wired magazine online right now. Man that little guy looks sad. Its like at that very moment, he finally realized how far he had fallen. Just tears your heart up a little, doesn't it?

My Wednesday Haul 02-07-07

It's a little late, but then again I was a little late buying comics last week. I did manage to get over to the store on Sunday. And here's what I got, please beware if you are behind on your comic reading their might be some spoilers below, but since the books have been out for almost a week now I'm moving forward:

New Avengers #27: We've got the NEW New Post Civil War Avengers introduced as a team in this issue: Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Echo, Ronin, Wolverine and Dr. Strange. The gang goes to Japan to save Echo from clutches of Electra and the ninjas of the Hand. A good book overall, I'm glad to have a none Civil War story back in the New Avengers. Having Echo revealed as the original Ronin has me and every other reader wondering who the new Ronin is. And where is Capt. America for that matter. This is an interesting team, but to me this book would almost be more accurately called the New Defenders. With the dark mood, the odd assortment of heroes and Dr. Strange in the mix the book just feels like a Defenders comic to me. I enjoyed artist Leinil Yu's fight scenes and interpretations of the characters. Overall a pleasing book, it'll be fun to see how long this version of the Avengers lasts.

Fantastic Four: The End #5 I dig Alan Davis's artwork. The story isn't quite what I thought the final days of the Fantastic Four would be. There is a lot of cheese in this vision of the future Marvel Universe, but I can't overcome my love of Davis's pencils and seeing him draw so many different Marvel characters in one series. The story is interesting and if you missed as a limited series, picking up the inevitable trade paperback is my recommendation.

newuniversal #3: haven't read it yet. I feel like I should read the first two again before reading this one. Having trouble getting into the story, so it's not sticking with me from issue to issue. But I was a fan of some of original New Universe so my curiosity is peaked.

Ms. Marvel #12: Cool cover by Greg Horn. Fun, action packed story with Ms. Marvel fighting a giant robot and his army of A.I.M. created zombies. I still don't have any attachment to this Arana character so her fall at the hands of the robot really didn't get me emotionally on any level. I'd be happy if the character disappeared honestly, how many Spider characters does the Marvel Universe need ?1? I'm glad She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel have quality books on the shelves. Marvel has a lot of strong female characters and readers are benefiting from the company's realization of this fact.

The Pin-Up Art of Bill Ward: I'm a sucker for classic pin-up artist. I'm jealous of their almost effortless skill. Bill Ward, creator of Torchy and contributor to a number of magazines as a cartoonist/pin-up artist has his works collected in this paperback published by Fantagraphics. It was an impulse buy, I would have been even more giddy if it were a collection of Jack Cole pin-ups, but I'll take a Bill Ward collection any day if the price is right.

Fantastic Four Movie Trailers

The trailer shown above isn't anything new, any follower of the upcoming Fantastic Four movie will recognize it from a couple months ago when it debuted online. However I've found a German FTP site that has downloadable versions of trailers, they offer a decent range of resolutions. I wasn't a big fan of the first movie, but this second one looks more promising. I'm already impressed with the way they have improved on the Thing's look and how they've brought the Silver Surfer to life. If there were ever a character created that was perfect for a CG treatment, its the Silver Surfer.

DC Unlimted to Produce AFRO SAMURAI TOYS

Press Release

DC Unlimited, the new brand launched by DC Comics to license and promote the world's greatest pop culture characters and stories, is proud to announce the acquisition of a license to release a line of action figures and collectibles based on the Studio Gonzo produced "Afro Samurai" animated series. The series debuted on Spike TV January 4th and will be released on DVD in May by FUNimation Entertainment. The collectibles will be offered in the U.S. and Canada by DC Unlimited, with the first series of products debuting at the American International Toy Fair, held in New York in February 2007.

Adapted from Takashi Okazaki's manga, the series chronicles Afro Samurai's relentless quest to avenge his father's brutal murder. Featuring music by renowned hip-hop artist The RZA and starring Academy Award-nominated actor and executive producer Samuel L. Jackson as the Afro Samurai, the series is a groundbreaking fusion of American hip-hop and classic samurai story. Other voice talents working on the series include Ron Perlman ("Hellboy") and Kelly Hu ("X2").

"The opportunity to bring Afro Samurai to action figure and collectible fans was something we couldn't pass up," said Cheryl Rubin, Senior Vice President Brand Management at DC Comics. "The combination of Afro Samurai's hip, cutting-edge animation with the quality and attention to detail that DC Unlimited is known for is a perfect match."

DC Direct, best known for their authentic collectibles generated directly from the source material, will launch a line of Afro Samurai collectibles that will include fully articulated 6.75" and 14" action figures, resin busts and statues - all spotlighting the characters from the popular anime. The first wave of figures will include Afro Samurai, his sidekick Ninja Ninja and his deadly adversaries Kuma and Justice. The first wave of figures is slated to hit comic book and pop culture specialty retailers Fall 2007.

"With its innovative fusion of hip-hop and anime, Afro Samurai is such a unique title we knew we needed an exceptional partner to create figures befitting the animation," said Bob Brennan, Director of Licensing at FUNimation Entertainment. "DC Unlimited's reputation, superior design and attention to detail combined with their passion for this property made them the natural choice for this line. "

Geek Monthly Interviews Joss Whedon

This week Geek Monthly posted the first of a four part interview with Joss Whedon focusing on his embracing the comic book medium. With his work on Astonishing X-Men and his upcoming Buffy the Vampire series that he will be writing for Dark Horse Comics, it should be an interesting interview to keep tabs on.
